How do you deal with “No”?
When you are up for a job, be it a photo job or a work place job, and you lose out to someone else, how do you respond?
Seth Godin offers an excellent suggestion on how to properly respond:
Two ways to deal with “no”
Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?
We’ve been fairly fortunate in that most of our customers actually understand at least a little of what is involved in our shooting. But every once in a while, there is that one special person who thinks that because he can buy a camera for $100 and get his prints at Costco for a few pennies, that we should only charge what Costco does.
Here is a fairly definitive article that explains just what goes into work:
Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?
And in our case, add in the beating that our equipment takes at the dirt tracks we cover. Let’s face it, a dirt track is not an ideal environment for $5k cameras and lenses, and they don’t last nearly as long as they should.
Our first senior session, featuring Timberly and Adam
We recently had the privilege of shooting our first senior photo session, and our very first stars were brother and sister, Adam and Timberly. We’ve been good friends with their family for some time now, and we were honored when they asked us to do their senior photos.
I hope we learned much during this session, and hopefully I’ll not be so nervous for our next session. There are a lot of things I wish we had done differently, and I quickly learned where our equipment is lacking.
Here are a few of our favorites from that session (click thumbnail for larger view)…
Three of my favorites from Raceway 7
Here are 3 of my favorite photos from my visits to Raceway 7 this past season. All 3 are from when the IRS Late Model Series was there on May 23.
First is Russ King, followed by Devin Friese, and finally Rick Auckland. Feel free to let me know which one you like best. Or even why you don’t like them.

Welcome to the newest version of Oyler Action Photos
This site is way over due for a make over, so I’ve finally started working on that. Over the next couple of days I’ll be doing some major tweaking and redesigning, so don’t be surprised if it looks different every time you come back.
I’m also going to be revamping how I use the blog part of the site, sharing photography tips, articles I find helpful, showcasing some new photos, and sharing an entirely new direction that Oyler Photography will be undertaking.
Our Racing Galleries are still in place, and more general thoughts are still on my SteelerDirtFreak blog. So, poke around, explore, and hopefully I’ll be seeing around from time to time. Feel free to leave a comment and say howdy.
